Growth strategy & ecommerce

Find the opportunities worth pursuing.

When sales depend on too few channels, retention needs attention or a new opportunity keeps getting pushed back, start by connecting customer demand with the economics and capacity of the business.

  • Review ecommerce, wholesale and retail opportunities, including how channels fit together.
  • Identify merchandising, product launch and customer retention priorities.
  • Research competitors, potential partners and routes to new revenue.
  • Turn the findings into a sequenced plan with owners and next steps.

The output may be a channel assessment, launch plan, merchandising calendar or focused growth sprint. Scope depends on the problem and what your team can execute.

Business operations consulting

Make the plan work in practice.

Growth creates more decisions, handoffs and competing priorities. Operating work makes those responsibilities visible and gives the team a practical way to act on them.

  • Build revenue models and dashboards around the decisions you need to make.
  • Create hiring plans, role definitions and clearer ownership.
  • Set a weekly operating cadence and a 30/60/90-day plan.
  • Connect processes and systems so important work moves forward.

For retail, CPG and hospitality businesses, that can mean connecting ecommerce with wholesale and stores, comparing the economics of revenue streams, or planning the people and processes required for expansion.

Fractional leadership

Senior judgment.
Hands-on involvement.

Fractional commercial and operating leadership gives your business an experienced person to lead agreed priorities for a portion of time. The work can include cross-functional initiative leadership, team coordination and implementation alongside the founder.

A defined project fits a bounded need, such as a model or launch plan. Ongoing fractional support fits work that requires repeated decisions, team involvement and follow-through. We agree on responsibilities, deliverables and the working rhythm before starting.

How an engagement works

  1. Understand the business. Review the numbers, current priorities and what is getting in the way.
  2. Agree on the scope. Define useful outputs, owners, timing and a weekly or project fee.
  3. Lead the work. Build, implement and equip the team to sustain progress, with a handoff or ongoing support.

Working together

Common questions.

What does Hogan Consulting do?

Hogan Consulting helps founders and business owners connect growth strategy with day-to-day operations. Matt Hogan works on revenue opportunities, ecommerce, financial models, team structure and hands-on execution for retail, CPG and hospitality businesses.

Who will do the work?

You work directly with Matt Hogan, a Boston-based commercial leader and operator with more than 20 years of experience across Wayfair, AllModern, Symmons and Island Creek Oysters. His background includes P&L ownership, cross-functional leadership and an MBA from Boston University Questrom.

What is fractional leadership?

Fractional leadership gives a business senior operating or commercial support for an agreed portion of time. The engagement can combine setting priorities, leading initiatives, working with the team and putting repeatable processes in place, with scope agreed before work starts.

Can we start with a short project?

Yes. A focused project can address a specific problem, such as a revenue model, a 90-day operating plan, a hiring plan or an ecommerce review. Ongoing fractional support is an option when the business needs continued leadership and execution.

How is consulting priced?

Priorities, deliverables and a weekly or project fee are agreed before the engagement begins. Pricing depends on the scope and level of involvement. Start with a conversation about the business and the work you need done.
